Unforgiveness is Like Spiritual Poison

We know that as a single parent it can be challenging to forgive a former husband or wife for some of the things they may have done during the relationship.  But let us just make this very clear right now… Unforgiveness is like spiritual poison. When you hold bitterness against some one for any reason you are the one who feels the pain, not them.

We often hold resentment towards others or bitter indignation at having been treated unfairly.  But much of the time we are upset with ourselves because we did not respond properly to the situation.  Whatever the case may be it is our responsible to love and forgive one another for any reason.

Holding unforgiveness is like drinking rat poison and hoping that the rat would die.  I know, sounds crazy, right?  Well, this is more common than  you realize.  It can be quite scary to let go of unforgivingness if you help in to it for a long time.  I like the way Tyler Perry explains his testimony of overcoming unforgiveness in this video:

Unforgiveness Gives The Advantage… But Only to The Enemy

Let’s be honest, Jesus tells us we should love one antother as He loves us.  John 15:12  Unforgiveness is a tool of the enemy and when we use it as fuel for our lives we give Satan the advantage in our lives.  2 Corinthians 10-11  You may have to grit your teeth, drop some tears and cry aloud to God but at the end of the day he is pleased with our faith to trust Him and forgive our ex husband or wife.
